Aidan Epstein, Cello

“I listened to all the instruments in the orchestra. And cello sounded the best to me.” Done. Aidan picked up the cello in fifth grade in Champaign-Urbana, Illinois, and has never looked back. He played in the music program in elementary school, and orchestras in middle and high school, with private lessons as well.

Aidan earned a degree in computer science from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign (yes, sometimes called Champaign-Urbana), with a music minor. “I played in the orchestra and also in cello choirs,” ensembles of 4-12 or so cellos with music written or arranged for cello choir. “There’s a great range of octaves and moving voices that cover the vocal range with a really full, warm sound.”

He came to the Bay Area for a job with Lawrence Livermore National Laboratories, working on software development for scientific applications (bioinformatics). Early in the SARS-CoV-2  (covid) epidemic he worked on a project using simulated drug interactions data to find possibly therapies against the infection. And he played with the Livermore-Amador Symphony while in session.

Aidan moved to Oakland about three years ago, attended a Prometheus Concert and liked what he heard! He’s  been playing with us for a couple of seasons now. “The plan is to stay! I enjoy living here and enjoy playing with Prometheus.” Stay, oh please do!
