Legacy Society

The Legacy Society

When you include Prometheus Symphony in your estate plan or make a legacy gift, your generosity will make a lasting impact, creating music experiences that spark joy and inspiration. The Prometheus Legacy Society recognizes and honors members of our orchestra and our audience—and their families—who have included Prometheus Symphony in their estate plans, direct giving, or investment accounts. See Donor Rewards for what awaits you! Of course, you should consult your financial/estate planner or tax advisor, but here are a few examples of how you can make a legacy gift.

Please let us know that you have made a legacy gift so that we can honor and reward you! You can use the online form, or you can print it and return to John Gilbert, Prometheus President.

Recurring Donations
If you sign up to make a monthly online donation of $25 or more ($300/yr), we will track that for you and you’ll become a member of the Legacy Society right away.

 Bequests
Making a bequest in your will or living trust is an easy way to make a gift. Bequest language can be as simple as “I hereby bequeath                to Prometheus Symphony Orchestra, PO Box 3335, Oakland, CA, 94609 Tax ID 94-2516578.” Your gift can be a specific dollar amount, a percentage of your estate, or the residue of your estate that’s left after other gifts have been satisfied.

 Beneficiary Designations
Naming Prometheus Symphony as a beneficiary of a life insurance policy, annuity, or retirement fund (IRA, 401k, 403b) can offer tax advantages and you don’t need to change your will or trust. Simply ask your plan sponsor for a beneficiary designation form and name Prometheus Symphony Orchestra.

Required Minimum Distributions
If you’re at the age that you are required to take withdrawals from your IRA/401K accounts (currently age 73), you can take advantage of a simple way to give and receive tax benefits in return. Rather than donating after-tax dollars to Prometheus, you can give the required distribution amount from your IRA/401K assets to a qualified charitable organization. The charitable rollover is tax-free and is then not included in your adjusted gross income. If you plan this on an ongoing basis, you’ll join the Legacy Society!

 Donor Advised Funds (DAF)
Relatively new, this charitable investment account allows individuals to make tax-deductible contributions (cash, stocks, real estate, or other assets) on an ongoing basis to support charities and non-profits. You have the flexibility to recommend how much and how often money is granted to Prometheus Symphony and other qualified charities. You can recommend recurring gifts now to make an immediate impact or use your fund as a tool for future charitable gifts. The contribution is irrevocable and tax-deductible in the year of the donation.
