Mark Narins, Tenor, Beethoven 9th
Tenor Mark Narins is currently appearing as Luigi in Il Tabarro (Puccini) at Verismo Opera in Vallejo, where he also has sung Pinkerton (Madama Butterfly), Turridu (Cavalleria Rusticana), Don Jose (Carmen), Duke of Mantua (Rigoletto), Riccardo (Ballo in Maschera), Cassio (Otello), and Froh (Das Rheingold). Other performances include Canio (Pagliacci) with Robert Ashens, Prince Golitsin (Khovanschina) with Kent Nagano, and Azael in Debussy’s L’Enfant Prodigue with Geoffrey Gallegos.
As a composer, Mr. Narins has completed his first symphony and conducted the premiere of his tone poem “Sacred Space” for orchestra and viola in June of 2014. Recently the Lesbian and Gay Freedom Band performed “The Golden Finde – Drake at Pt. Reyes,” his musical dramatization of Sir Francis Drake’s landing. He also composed the opera Theresa Kren about a mother’s resurrection of a little girl in 19th century Austria.
He is Associate Conductor of the Kensington Symphony and has led the Arizona Festival Orchestra and the Oakland Opera Company. He founded the City Opera Theater which produced Janacek’s Jenufa. Currently, he is organizing the inaugural season of The Bay Area Summer Orchestra Project in Alameda. He is co-principal trombonist with the Kensington Symphony and has played trombone with the Prometheus Symphony.
Mr. Narins, who studied at Mannes School of Music, Eastman School of Music and the University of Arizona, comes from a musical family. His mother, Margaret Gaudiani Narins, studied piano with Italian pedagogue Madame Carreras and with Olga Samaroff Stokowski at the Julliard School and became the personal assistant of Walter Toscanini at the NBC Symphony Orchestra
