Prometheus has the policies below to enhance our enjoyment, efficiency, and performance. Questions? Contact any Board member — listed at the bottom of this page.

Admission & Enrollment

Audition

Music Director Eric Hansen usually has an informal audition for new players.

Recruitment

Share about Prometheus with musician friends — we usually need string players and sometimes have wind vacancies.

Merritt enrollment

New members may be asked to enroll in Merritt College Music 30 — a formality that helps Prometheus retain rehearsal space. No fee is required. A Board member or Eric Hansen will walk you through it.

Minors (under 18)

Minors are welcome. See the website for our protective policies.

Requested Member Contributions

Purpose

Member contributions are essential to cover venue, salary, music rental, and other costs.

Standard request

$200 each Fall semester and each Spring semester. If you can contribute more, that will help the orchestra afford our wonderful new concert venue.

Per-concert rate

$80 per concert for members not playing all concerts. Guest players are exempt.

Payment

Pay via the website, or give a paper check to Treasurer Richard Trevor (bass).

Sliding scale. We want everyone to be able to play. If $200 each semester is a financial hardship, please consider it a sliding scale — pay what you’re comfortable with.

Rehearsal Basics

Absences

Tell your section leader. Wind players: please find a substitute.

Wind vacancies

Each section is responsible for handling vacancies or augmented instrumentation.

Conduct

Arrive and leave on time. Limit talking to pianissimo. Do not play while Eric works with others.

Perfumes/scents

Please refrain — fellow musicians may have allergies or sensitivities.

Safety

If you or another musician or audience member is hurt, or if you see a safety risk, tell a Board member immediately.

Rehearsal Days & Times
