Stephen Kim, age 11, started his violin studies at the age of three and a half. He is currently in the pre-college division of the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, where he studies with Bettina Mussumeli, a collegiate professor.

Stephen Kim, Soloist with the Prometheus Symphony Orchestra Stephen made his debut performance as the winner of the 2005 Palo Alto Chamber Orchestra (PACO) Solo Concerto Competition, performing with PACO on May 13, 2006 at the age of 10. In May 2006, he became the youngest 1st place winner of the San Francisco Bay Area Chapter of the 2006 California ASTA Competition in the junior division (age up to 19). Later in October 2006, he was chosen as one of six winners to represent California at the National ASTA Competition.

In January 2007, Stephen has been awarded as the 1st prize winner for the instrumental division in the Second Annual Mondavi Center Young Artists Competition at UC-Davis. He will perform a solo at UC-Davis on March 18, 2007.

Recently, Stephen also was invited to perform a solo for the Menuhin-Dowling Young Musicians at Nueva School in Hillsborough on March 9, 2007.

Stephen has performed in numerous recitals at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, Pacific Musical Society and Santa Clara University. As a chamber musician at the Palo Alto Chamber Orchestra, he has volunteered to perform at numerous places including the Stanford hospital, the Veterans hospital, senior centers, Stanford shopping mall, and the Showcase Attic Concert in Santa Cruz. In summer 2006, Stephen attended the Mozart's 250th Anniversary Festival in Salzburg and Vienna, Austria.

Stephen's musicality continues to expand as he further composes music in his spare time.
