The Board of Directors welcomes all new and returning members to the 44th Season · 2010 - 2011.
Please note revisions in the Rehearsal Schedule are indicated in blue.
Rehearsal Venue: Most rehearsals are held at Merritt College, Building P Room 307, (see the Campus Map)
Rehearsals: Mondays from 7:30 - 10:00 pm. Please arrive before 7:10 PM to set up up the room, unpack your instrument, and be ready to tune at 7:25. The baton falls at 7:30 pm.
Concert Dates: October 10, November 21, January 30, 2011, March 27, and May 22.
We are striving to increase the size of our string section, the size of our audience, and the quality of our performances. We hope to increase our recognition among the community.
Dues: $150/semester, due in September and in January
(greater contribution amounts are always appreciated and help the orchestra).
Checks are made out to Prometheus Symphony Orchestra. Temporary players
(those who play fewer than 5 concerts) are asked to contribute $50 per concert in lieu of regular dues.
Exceptions are be made for hardship cases - contact Bruce von Kugelgen (trombone) or John Gilbert (timpani)
if you have difficulty paying dues.
Corporate Matching Funds and Contributions: Many companies have matching contribution programs for non-profits. Orchestra members who work for larger companies are encouraged to find out whether such a program exists (easily done with a call to the human resources department). Contact Bruce von Kugelgen or John Gilbert on this.
Merritt College enrollment is handled by Keith Sklower (oboe). DO NOT PAY FEES TO MERRITT COLLEGE! If you receive a letter from Merritt College requesting that you register and pay fees, give the letter to Keith Sklower (oboe).
Rehearsal Refreshments: We need your help here; if everyone does this, it is unlikely that anyone will need to do it more than twice per year. Please see the sign up sheet at the first rehearsal or talk to Valerie Herr (cello).
We usually have an
Orchestra Party is at the end of the season. Anyone wishing to help organize the party
or volunteer their house should contact one of the board members listed at the bottom of this letter.
Concert Dress: Men: Tuxedo or black suit and bow tie; Women: black long dress or pants.
Manhasset Stands (with Merritt College painted on them) are property of Merritt College. Orchestra members may borrow a stand for a concert or other purpose, but the number of the stand and the borrower's name must be left with Sandy Roadcap (violin). The music stand must be returned as soon as possible after use. Removal of a stand without permission is not allowed.
Concert Parking is occasionally available directly across Bay Place from St Paul's (enter on the west side of Bay). Otherwise. parking is available on the street. Please arrive in enough time to find adequate parking.
You must notify your section leader if you are unable to attend a rehearsal; and please find a substitute if at all possible.
