Violin The ninteenth annual Prometheus Symphony Orchestra Student Concerto Competition begins at 6:30 pm Tuesday, January 29, 2008, at Zion Lutheran Church, 5201 Park Boulevard, Piedmont/Oakland. The competition is open to Bay Area string, woodwind, brass, and percussion players, eighteen years of age or younger. The winner will perform with the orchestra on Sunday, March 16, 2007 and will receive a $150 award plus a professional recording of the performance.

The Concerto Competition is held in memory of Felix Khuner, a member of the San Francisco Symphony, the San Francisco Opera Orchestra, the California String quartet, and a teacher of chamber music. Felix Khuner played with the Prometheus Symphony after his retirement from the Opera Orchestra.

Contestants are to perform from memory a complete concerto or solo work for solo instrument and orchestra. Contestants must provide an accompanist and a copy of the solo part for the judges. In selecting the work to be performed, the contestant should ensure that orchestral parts are currently available.
