Throughout its history, The Prometheus Symphony Orchestra
has performed challenging works from the 20th century (including works of Schoenberg, Berg,
Webern, Stravinsky, Bartok, Hindemith, and contemporary composers) as well as the classics of earlier eras.
Highlights of recent seasons have included Stravinsky's Rite of Spring, Mahler's Fourth, Fifth,
and Ninth Symphonies, Strauss' Death and Transfiguration, and Holst's The Planets.
Each year, the Orchestra sponsors the Felix Khuner Memorial Concerto Competition. An application form is provided on that page.
Currently the orchestra numbers about 50 members, all volunteers, who pay a registration fee each semester. We rehearse weekly, on Monday evenings, and present five free concerts each year. We invite musicians to join us for an experience of passionate, committed music-making.
The Members of The Prometheus Symphony Orchestra
express their gratitude to George Thomson for our initial
web pages, and for his many years of inspiration as our previous conductor.
